Savory Lies - Excerpts

Fed up with her husband and the lack of passion in their relationship Shay found solace in her work to keep her mind off of home.  Drowning herself in work at the clinic she managed to get some much needed clinical notes done.  Day after day Shay tore herself away from home to escape the hurt she felt inside.  Terry tried to get his wife to listen to reason and understand his side of things.  Shay just would not hear of it; she refused to talk about it anymore and she did not want to have to fight for respect which she should have already owned.  Terry decided that he would give it one more try to resolve the misunderstanding.  Terry cooked dinner and put a thin tube vase on the table with a flower in it.  Pumpkin spice scent filled the air along with the aroma of a roasted hen, string beans, mashed potatoes, and a side of gravy.  He figured that this should get her to sit down and listen to him long enough to state his case.

Shay walked through the door and right away her life flashed back to happier times when Terry used to charm and woo her.  Her pulse quickened and her heart pounded as she saw him standing there next to the table with dinner and two roses.

“Welcome home… come and have a seat, dinner awaits you.”

Shay did not say a word.  She placed her bags on the floor and put her purse in the chair next to the seat that Terry pulled out for her.  They sat down and ate in peace.  Terry kept eye contact with her checking her mood and timing her reactions to his gestures.  Moving closer to her, he put his arm around her.

“I want to explain something to you Shay… I have tried to be the perfect husband for you but that doesn’t mean that I am not a man.  I may not have done everything right but I mean well by you.  Please forgive me and take this as a token of my apology.”

Shay lit up like a christmas tree and she thought about how they made it through times that were more difficult.  Snuggling up next to her he nipped at her earlobe and made her giggle.  It was times like these that made a marriage worth saving.  Terry did not expect sex that night but he sure did hope for it.  Shay kissed him and excused herself from the table.  She went into their bedroom to find rose pedals around the tub with candles flickering; as Shay turned around there was Terry standing with a her robe and slippers.  Shay looked him over as he began to recite words he said to her when they first met many moons ago.
