Holiday Cheer Poetry

It was the holiday season and the people were sound
Bored to the core and no one wore a smile
The present that sat underneath the tree
Were all for the kids and nothing for me
Every year it is the same ole' thing
A watch, a bracelet, or even undies
I wanted something that would stick with me for a while
Something that could bring about a smile
The stars filled the sky bringing forth its light
While the moon settled the kids with lullabies - goodnight
I looked upon a star and made one wish
That I would receive the very best gift
The next morning was filled with glee
As the children ran about playing so happy
I sat in my chair with a blank look on my face
Wondering if my wish was lost in space
Then I turned to look at the tree
It was glittering and shining so pretty
I saw a flat box that was in the very back
It was bare and brown and had no wrapping
Getting to my knees I went under the tree
And what did I find....
A gift for me
It didn't look fancy and it was stiff like a board
So I opened it up with no cheer of course
To my surprise the gift that was waiting for me
It was a electronic device
Already filled with things for me to read
I searched for a card but there was nothing to be found
Then I thought about my wish last night upon that star
My eyes were filled with joy as I sat and read a book
I was finally happy and content with my books.
